How SBC Communicates Cancellations
While decreasing Covid restrictions finally has us feeling like we have some control over our lives, one thing remains beyond our control: the weather. We have already seen the nullification of most of our schedules during the past 16 months. The last thing that coaches and players want is more cancellations.

Two different scenarios determine when diamond times are cancelled. Firstly, the City of Sarnia staff inspects diamonds and determines whether or not they are playable. They communicate this information to our Scheduler who immediately relays that information to all coaches. Coaches (and/or managers) can then convey that information to parents and players. Typically, we would not get an update until 2 or 3 hours before our scheduled event.

For weekday practices, team staff will not be informed of cancellations until 3 or 4 pm; for weekend games, we routinely find out at about 8 a.m.

For ongoing weather events, the timeline is even shorter. Practices can be cancelled at the very last moment. Weather patterns in Sarnia make it difficult to predict as storms frequently travel to the north or the south of the city.

All coaches strive to keep their players and parents as informed as possible. That said, they typically will not be able to give you any assurances until we get closer to the event. They will communicate with you as soon as they receive relevant information. (RP)
