AAA Brigade Win Southwestern League Opener
Game Report - Sarnia 17-11 London

It was a slugfest to start the season at Labatt Park as the Brigade defeated the London Badgers 17-11 at the world's oldest ballpark.Wesley Brooks led the Brigade with four hits, four RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases in his debut. Wade Babula (pictured) also scored three times and had three RBI.

Jake Burgess got the opening day nod for the Brigade and didn't disappoint, allowing three hits to pick up his first win of the season. Zion Ainsworth and Babula pitched in relief with Mike Damchuk closing the door in the ninth.

Sarnia jumped up to an 12-2 lead with the lineup knocking out twelve hits in the first six innings. But, London came storming back in the sixth, throwing up a crooked number to trail by just one.

It wasn't until the top of the ninth with two outs that the Brigade added some insurance. Brennan Healy got things going with a double, Ainsworth singled, and Keegan Huber was hit by a pitch to load things up. Rookie Brett Brydges came to the plate and worked a walk to give Sarnia a 13-11 lead.

It was a big moment as Brett is the first third-generation player in club history. His grandfather Jack played in the early days of the team, winning the 1959 Ontario title. His father Ian also won an Ontario Eliminations title with the team in 1994.

Connor McCallum then broke things open with a double to left that scored two. Babula singled in two more to round out the scoring.

Sarnia travels to London again on Friday to face the Lakeside Tigers. Derek Masse gets the start for the Brigade.
