PBLO 18U Championship
The Sarnia Baseball Club hosted the Premier Baseball League of Ontario championship tournament this past weekend. The team finished their division sweep with a 3-0 record.
Friday night they defeated Ottawa 9-2. Logan Klompstra pitched a complete game 4-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Brady Pepper had a double and a 2-run home run for SBC. In game 2 Sarnia again won 9-2, this time over Oshawa. Big bat for Sarnia was Jayden Park with 2 hits including a triple and 3 runs batted in. Logan Buntrock had 3 hits. Noah Lester pitched the win. In game 3 the SBC scored 9 runs in the fourth inning and cruised to an 11-6 win over the London Badgers. Nick George had a bases loaded double and 4 rbi. Park had a pair of hits and 3 rbi. Buntrock recorded the win with relief help from Jacob Turner in the seventh inning.
On Sunday morning the Sudbury Voyaguers and the Sarnia club were locked in a pitchers duel through five innings, neither team able to score a run. Sudbury pitcher Liam Socranski held Sarnia to one hit through 6 innings. The Voyaguers squeezed across a run in the sixth inning and another in the seventh. Lester opened the seventh for Sarnia with a double. Brooks singled, Nick George singled and Pepper doubled to tie the score at 2-2. In the extra inning Sudbury failed to score then pinch hitter Klompstra singled to drive in Ethan McAuley with the winning run.
The final saw two undefeated teams squaring off. Tecumseh Thunder took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning then Spencer Morin and Jayden McKenzie shutdown the Sarnia offense as the Thunder went on to win 5-0 and claim the championship.
