14U AA OBA CHAMPIONS!
This past weekend the Sarnia Brigade 14U team came out on top in their OBA Provincials
Tournament.
With a tough first game losing 10-0 to the Kitchener Panthers, they bounced back
the next morning beating the Burlington Bulls 11-3.
They then would face the Thornhill Reds with a chance to move on to Sunday. The Brigade would win in convincing style by a score of 12-1.
Sunday morning a great defensive effort by Sarnia resulted in a 4-2 victory over the Pickering Red Sox. Moving on to play the Lasalle Titans that afternoon the game was scoreless until the 6th when Lasalle pushed across the first run of the game. Sarnia would answer in the bottom of the 6th scoring 2 and taking the lead. A 1-2-3 top of the seventh would give Sarnia a 2-1 victory and give them a 4-1 record for the tournament.
With 3 teams remaining, all with the same record, there would be a draw for a bye to the Final. Sarnia drew the bye and would play the winner of Markham and host Brantford. Markham would eliminate Brantford and set up the Championship game with Sarnia on Monday.
In the championship game, Markham would take a 4-2 lead into the 5th inning. Sarnia would rally and put up 6 runs to take the lead. Each team would continue to exchange runs and Sarnia would come to the plate in the top of the 7th inning in a 9-9 tie. Scoring 2 runs in the inning Sarnia would then close out the bottom of the 7th 1-2-3 to win the OBA Championship.
The OBA Championship tops off a season that included an LDBA regular season championship, an LDBA tournament championship and an overall record of 45 wins and 12 losses.
